Cleaning Brushes and Rollers

Painting tools can be reused. If you want to avoid throwing away your equipment and buying new supplies too often, you can simply clean them.

To clean brushes and rollers effectively, start by removing any excess paint. Use a spatula or knife to scrape off any hardened paint. Then, soak the tools in solvent for a while—overnight if necessary. After soaking, rinse them with soapy water, wring them out, and let them dry. Be sure to remove all solvent from the equipment before using it again.

Our Brush and Roller Cleaner is ideal for this task. It contains mineral spirits, which are the most recommended solvent as it cleans thoroughly without damaging painting equipment.

Tips and tricks

The cleaning process is most effective when you clean your tools immediately after use. If the paint has dried, you may need to soak the tools for a longer period and/or repeat the cleaning steps until they return to their original color.

For brushes, ensure that the bristles remain straight during the cleaning process.

When using brushes in paint or varnish, only dip the tip of the brush and not the entire handle, as this makes cleaning easier later on.

Always wear gloves when handling tools in solvents.

If you want to reduce your consumption of painting equipment, give it a try—you’ll love the results!
