Furniture Stripping

As environmental awareness continues to rise and the desire to combat overconsumption grows, more people are seeking ways to recycle various materials and items to give them a second life—and sometimes even more! Many platforms offer numerous tutorials on how to repurpose furniture into trendy new projects.

Considering that a piece of furniture may have one or more layers of paint or varnish, you’ll need to use a good stripper to reach the original surface. Just follow these simple steps, and you’re set! Start by cleaning the surface to remove any dust or debris—wiping it with a cloth will do; you don’t necessarily need a household cleaner or any other chemical product. Next, apply a thick coat of stripper using a brush. In most cases, it will take about 10 to 15 minutes for the paint to start coming off the furniture. When that happens, use a scraper to remove the loosened paint. Finally, clean and dry the furniture thoroughly, and it will be ready for your next project!

Our Paint and Adhesive Stripper is the best choice for quickly completing your projects. Made with methylene chloride, its effectiveness is unmatched.

Tips and tricks

Before applying the paint stripper, we recommend scratching the paint or varnish layers with sandpaper. This will allow the stripper to penetrate more effectively and speed up the process.

When applying the stripper, do so in one direction to prevent opening up the pores, which can accelerate evaporation.

Depending on the number of layers and type of paint, you may need to leave the stripper on for a longer period, but do not exceed 30 minutes per application. You will notice the paint starting to peel off when the stripper has taken effect.

Before repainting your furniture, use water or methanol (also known as methyl hydrate or wood alcohol) to ensure the surface is prepared for painting.

Be sure to wear gloves and a mask while working in a well-ventilated area.

Our stripper will make your furniture restoration projects easier!
